Weight of Gold
Series, 2024
This wearable sculpture series explores Deaf identity, memory, and communication through garments embedded with gold elements. Gold operates simultaneously as ornament, symbol, and burden, transforming value into physical weight carried by the body.
Inspired in part by the artist becoming a father, the work reflects on care, inheritance, and shifting responsibility. Across the series, gold accumulates through repetition, culminating in a monumental finale where gold teddy bears transform childhood comfort into sculptural weight.
Materials: Mixed media.
Selected works from a ten piece series. Full documentation available upon request.
