As If

As If examines the ambiguity between acknowledgment and understanding through repeated nodding gestures. A group of 3D printed sculptural heads performs variations of the Deaf nod, a culturally specific gesture that can keep an exchange moving without confirming that understanding has actually occurred.

Through repetition, timing, and subtle shifts in movement, the work considers participation, miscommunication, and the ways gesture can carry meaning while also concealing uncertainty.
